Speed Disappointed in Washington 50-44
The Carolina Speed Offense may have scored 44 points but 5 interceptions generally mean that your team will not win. Add that to the fact that the Usually stout defense only contributed 2 sacks, one interception and seemed unable to stop a post route by the Armor's receivers and you have and excellent chance to lose. Tribble Reece Started the game to keep Cleveland McCoy fresh for his tryout with the Detroit Lions ( see ....) Tribble threw 2 touchdowns but three interceptions all of which lead to points on the board by the Armor. At the half Coach McGarity and Coach Price working together in place of Offensive Coordinator Tracy Ellis, made the call to get Cleveland in. The Second half was a game of catch-up. McCoy threw for 3 tds and ran for another but also threw two interceptions to the stingy Armor backfield. Jimmy bell lead all rushing with 48 yards and an 11 yard TD and Mike malone lead all receiving with 89 and 3 tds. On defense Chris Blackshear had the lone interception and nearly scored with it. A score that likely wins the game for the Speed. Omar Bizzell returning from last weeks absence had 3 solo tackles and 5 assists to lead the defense. Daniel Monroe hit a huge 52 yard field goal late to get the team within striking distance. This week the Speed look for vengeance against the second place Fayetteville Guard. The Speed can make getting in the playoffs difficult for the Guard with a win and can finish the season 500 over all if they win this game and the following weeks game against the SC Force which has been moved to Monday night. Winning Both games would put the Speed 6-2 in the McGarity era with much promise for the following year. ![]() |
