REAL
TALK February 17, 2009
What
is a Speed Star Offense?
We have Ronnie Banks (U of South
Florida) handing off to T.A. McLendon (NC State), Hakim Pierce
(Livingstone), Sam Greiner (Catawba), and veteran Jimmy Bell.
Our receiving
corps has returning veterans Antoine ‘Cab’ Callaway, Gerald Clark.
They are joined by speed merchants Takory ‘Flea’ Burkett, Terry
Crenshaw (Hostra), and Marc Huddleston (Purdue). All of these
players are smart, fast, quick and have the personalities to make
themselves stars in the AIFA league.
How is
the league? The AIFA?
The American Indoor Football
Association is probably the strongest league in today’s arena
football. The AFL had the TV revenues, the players but their
business model was losing the owners millions of dollars. They
still have a large fan base and we are capturing that fan base all
along the eastern seaboard.
How
about the Defense? Are you running the Speed Star Defense?
Good one. Troy Pelshak (NC A&T,
St.Louis Rams Superbowl Champions), Alden Blizzard, Jermaine Smith
(ECU), Justin Woazeah (ASU) are new to the program.
DeAngelo
Lloyd (Tennessee), Tony Dupree (Minnesota) and several others come
to the team with big resumes. Omar Blizzard played in the recent
All-Star game and played like one.
Any
veterans back on the receiving corp?
Demarus Fox and Josh Smith are veterans returning to the team. With
this depth, that is why they are the Speed Star Offense. We will be
very difficult to stop on any series of downs.
How
are ticket sales?
Season ticket sales are moving along quite nicely in this economy.
We believe that after the first game, many fans will see the reason
people buy VIP tickets and stand at the dasher boards. People that
are used to football will love arena-style football and the
excitement it brings on a Saturday night.
How
are the sponsorships/partnerships?
We are surprised on both ends of the board. Some people who we were
sure would be happy to partner with us just didn’t because of
economic times. Other companies, who are not scared of the economy
or anything else, joined us in a big way. This is a great
opportunity to interface with a mixed demographic from single
parents to the ‘grand’ crowd; from 20-40 male and female singles to
entire families. At $ 8 dollars for every child under 17 years old
and $ 15 walkup for premium seats, there is no better bargain in
today’s economy.
Anything
else?
Practice starts this week with 2-a days on Saturday. Most
importantly, we need to get ready for Tuesday February 24th. We are
playing an intersquad game with fans and friends at the Bojangles
Coliseum from 7-9 pm. All fans are invited to bring all their
friends and family to next Tuesday the 24th. Also our new uniforms
in red and black with a new helmet that will dazzle people are now
in house. I am sure that we will sell out of these game jerseys when
they go on sale at the end of the year.
